Surround yourself with Healthiness

At Nudiefoods we have been delivering fresh fruit and vegetables to homes and offices in Dublin since April 2014. Our main goal is to encourage people to eat healthier by making it more convenient to acquire good, fresh, wholesome food. So far we are delighted with the response we have gotten. It is clear from the feedback from our regular customers that not only are they enjoying juicier, tastier fruit and veggies that last a lot longer than they are used to, but having this produce at their disposal has in fact encouraged them to eat more fruit & veg and less unhealthy foods and snacks. We have realised that it is not that there is a lack of desire for healthy food but rather it is just more convenient to eat bad food, or even worse, skip meals altogether.

The service has been very useful for people running busy and hectic lifestyles who don’t have the time to spend choosing good quality produce from the shops as well as minding a family of young children or working late into the evenings. Customers are reassured to know that even if they get around to doing nothing else, they can rely on us delivering them a healthy basket of fresh produce that they can feed themselves and their families with all week. Employees receiving corporate fruit deliveries are delighted that they can now avail of fresh fruit in the workplace instead of the typical sweets, biscuits and chocolates that they would have been used to having for a quick sugar fix at their 3pm slump. They are seeing a boost in morale and have also noticed an increase in productivity that they relate to healthier eating at work.

With child obesity on the rise in Ireland we believe we need to educate our children so that they know the difference between healthy and unhealthy food. They need to know the effects that food has on their bodies and how vital it is to maintain a balanced diet in order to live a healthy life. A common complaint that parents have is that their children don’t like fruit & veg and will only eat certain things. What we have seen from our customers and their children is that if you surround kids with healthy food and introduce fun and alternative ways to get them to eat them, that you may be surprised to learn that they actually enjoy these types of food more. Simple ways to do this are to include them in the purchasing of the weekly shopping and cooking of meals.

Earlier on in the year we sponsored the annual Family Day for Castleknock GAA and gave away complimentary fruit to everyone who attended. We were swamped by both adults and children who wanted to taste the fresh fruit. The thing we noticed most on the day was that on more than a few occasions children approached us and tried to purchase the fruit from us, not knowing that there was no charge. These were children who were willing to spend money that their parents had given them, to buy fruit while having the option of purchasing sweets, cakes, ice-cream, fizzy drinks and BBQ food that was also for sale on the day.

We conducted a small experiment on Halloween night to see what children would pick when they were given the choice between fruit and sweets. After simply painting pumpkin faces on a few satsumas and including them in the trick or treat bowl with popular chocolate bars, we were inspired to see that out of 11 children who called the door 9 of them chose the fruit above the sweets.

These results are very encouraging and it is most reassuring to see that there is still a huge demand and desire for healthy food. We will continue to improve our service to try to reach a wider range of customers and are confident that we can support more people as they continue to provide themselves and their families with healthy and wholesome food.
